\u4ece\u751f\u6da9\u3001\u8fdf\u7591\u3001\u9886\u4f1a\u5230\u6021\u7136\uff0c\u8fd9\u4e5f\u8bb8\u662f\u5341\u5e74\u6765\u7ffb\u8bd1\u8521\u8001\u5e08\u8336\u9053\u6587\u7ae0\u7684\u5fc3\u8def\u5386\u7a0b\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u8bd1\u8005\u4e0d\u4e00\u5b9a\u6709\u673a\u4f1a\u4e86\u89e3\u539f\u4f5c\u80cc\u540e\u7684\u7406\u5ff5\u548c\u601d\u7ef4\u3002\u80fd\u5faa\u6587\u5b57\u5728\u903e\u5341\u5e74\u95f4\u8ffd\u968f\u8521\u8001\u5e08\u7684\u8336\u9053\u8db3\u5370\uff0c\u63a5\u89e6\u4e0d\u540c\u7684\u8336\u6587\u7ae0\u5e76\u601d\u8003\u5b57\u91cc\u884c\u95f4\u7684\u542b\u4e49\uff0c\u6b64\u7ecf\u9a8c\u4e5f\u53ea\u80fd\u8bf4\u662f\u53ef\u9047\u800c\u4e0d\u53ef\u6c42\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u4e3a\u8001\u5e08\u7ffb\u8bd1\u7684\u6587\u5b57\u4f5c\u54c1\u6db5\u76d6\u77e5\u8bc6\u6280\u6cd5\u3001\u89c2\u70b9\u611f\u60f3\uff0c\u8336\u4eba\u8336\u4e8b\u7b49\uff1b\u518d\u6765\uff0c\u5c31\u662f\u65e0\u6211\u8336\u4f1a<\/strong>\u8fd9\u4e2a\u2018\u65e0\u4e2d\u751f\u6709\u2019\u7684\u5b8c\u6574\u8336\u9053\u6982\u5ff5\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u4ece\u65e0\u5230\u6709\uff0c\u4e0d\u53ea\u662f\u65e0\u6211\u8336\u4f1a\u7684\u7279\u8272\uff0c<\/strong>\u4e5f\u662f\u8521\u8363\u7ae0\u8001\u5e08\u4ece\u6784\u601d\u5230\u63a8\u52a8\u65e0\u6211\u8336\u4f1a\u7684\u5199\u7167\uff0c\u901a\u8fc7\u6587\u5b57\u5728\u300a\u65e0\u6211\u8336\u4f1a\u300b\u4e00\u4e66\u5185\u6709\u8be6\u5c3d\u8bb0\u5f55\u3002\u6709\u4e86\u6587\u5b57\uff0c\u8fd8\u5f97\u8de8\u8d8a\u8bed\u8a00\u7684\u85e9\u7bf1\u624d\u80fd\u8ba9\u5b83\u4f20\u5f97\u66f4\u5e7f\u66f4\u8fdc\uff0c\u8fd9\u4fc3\u6210\u4e86\u6b64\u4e66\u591a\u4e2a\u8bd1\u672c\uff0c\u82f1\u8bd1\u7248\u672c\u4e3a\u5176\u4e00\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018\u4ece\u65e0\u5230\u6709\uff0c\u6709\u65e0\u4e92\u66ff\u2019\u7684\u6838\u5fc3\u89c2\u5ff5\uff0c\u5355\u5411\u5949\u8336\u7684 \u2018\u65e0\u6240\u4e3a\u800c\u4e3a\u2019\u2019\uff0c\u5c06\u8336\u5b89\u653e\u5728\u2018\u65e0\u4f55\u6709\u4e4b\u4e61\u2019\u7684\u72ec\u7279\u89c6\u89d2\uff0c\u51e1\u6b64\u79cd\u79cd\uff0c\u90fd\u6e17\u900f\u7740\u5112\u9053\u7985\u7b49\u4e1c\u65b9\u54f2\u601d\u3002\u5bf9\u6211\u6765\u8bf4\uff0c\u8ba9\u8fd9\u4e9b\u89c2\u5ff5\u3001\u505a\u6cd5\u548c\u89c6\u89d2\u901a\u8fc7\u53e6\u4e00\u79cd\u8bed\u8a00\u5982\u5b9e\u91cd\u73b0\u662f\u4e2a\u91cd\u8981\u4efb\u52a1\u3002\u56e0\u6b64\uff0c\u300a\u65e0\u6211\u8336\u4f1a\u300b\u7ffb\u8bd1\u8fc7\u7a0b\u4e2d\u7684\u6bcf\u4e2a\u8003\u91cf\u548c\u51b3\u5b9a\u90fd\u5faa\u7740\u8fd9\u4e2a\u65b9\u5411\u8d70\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u539f\u6587\u662f\u201c\u65e0\u4f55\u6709\u4e4b\u4e61\u662f\u8bf4\u8fd9\u4e16\u95f4\u672c\u65e0\u53ef\u4ee5\u963b\u6320\u4f60\u7684\u4e8b\u52a1\uff0c\u662f\u53ef\u4ee5\u81ea\u7531\u53d1\u5c55\u7684\u3002\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u8bd1\u6587\u662f\u201cNegative as\nits connotation may seem, the term Land of Nothingness could be understood\ndifferently. It may refer, figuratively, to a place devoid of any interference\n— a condition that renders it conducive to unadulterated development and the\nrealisation of growth to come.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018\u65e0\u4f55\u6709\u4e4b\u4e61\u2019\u4e00\u8bcd\u51fa\u81ea\u5e84\u5468\u300a\u5e84\u5b50\u00b7\u900d\u9065\u6e38\u300b\uff0c\u8521\u8001\u5e08\u5f15\u6b64\u63cf\u7ed8\u4e00\u4e2a\u53ef\u4ee5\u5728\u65e0\u5e72\u6270\u7684\u60c5\u51b5\u4e0b\u81ea\u7531\u53d1\u5c55\u7684\u5883\u754c\uff0c\u5e76\u4ee5\u6b64\u5bfc\u5165\u8336\u7684\u6574\u4e2a\u751f\u547d\u5468\u671f\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u5c06\u65e0\u4f55\u6709\u4e4b\u4e61\u8bd1\u4e3a \u2018Land of Nothingness\u2019 \u662f\u8981\u70b9\u51fa\u2018\u65e0\u2019\u7684\u5883\u754c\uff0c \u5e76\u547c\u5e94\u65e0\u6211\u8336\u4f1a \u2018\u6709\u2019(being) \u4e0e\u2018\u65e0\u2019(nothing) \u5faa\u73af\u4e0d\u606f\u7684\u7279\u8d28\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 \u2018Nothingness\u2019 \u4e00\u5b57\u5728\u82f1\u8bed\u4e2d\u5e26\u6709\u8d1f\u9762\u542b\u4e49\u3002\u4f8b\u5982\uff0c\u5251\u6865\u8bcd\u5178\u5c06\u4e4b\u89e3\u91ca\u4e3a \u201ca state where nothing is present, or where nothing exists that is\nimportant or gives meaning to life\u201d \uff08\u610f\u5373\u4e00\u5207\u90fd\u4e0d\u5b58\u5728\u7684\u72b6\u6001\uff0c\u6216\u6ca1\u6709\u4efb\u4f55\u91cd\u8981\u6216\u8d4b\u4e88\u751f\u547d\u610f\u4e49\u7684\u4e8b\u7269\uff09\u3002 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u8981\u8ba9\u82f1\u6587\u7248\u8bfb\u8005\u8d70\u8fdb\u300a\u5e84\u5b50\u30fb\u900d\u9065\u6e38\u300b\u7684\u8bed\u5883\uff0c\u6211\u51b3\u5b9a\u4ee5 \u201cNegative as its connotation may seem, the term Land of Nothingness\ncould be understood differently\u201d \u4f5c\u4e3a\u672c\u6761\u5f00\u7aef\u3002\u8fd9\u6709\u522b\u4e8e\u539f\u6587\u7684\u5b89\u6392\uff0c\u7528\u610f\u5728\u4e8e\u63d0\u9192\u82f1\u8bd1\u672c\u8bfb\u8005\u5373\u4f7fThe Land of Nothingness \u6709\u5176\u8d1f\u9762\u542b\u4e49\uff0c \u6b64\u8bcd\u5728\u300a\u65e0\u6211\u8336\u4f1a\u300b\u5185\u7684\u89e3\u8bfb\u548c\u4ed6\u4eec\u6240\u8ba4\u77e5\u7684\u6216\u719f\u6089\u7684\u6709\u660e\u663e\u5dee\u522b\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It has been more than ten years since I began learning about tea from Master Tsai.  Although I have never attended\nhis classes, I have gained an understanding of the Way of Tea and an insight\ninto the aspiration of a genuine tea master through his writings.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Translating Master Tsai\u2019s tea articles is a\ndecade-long journey of discovery. Feeling inadequate at the start, I have become more confident about the subject matter as time passes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Translators don\u2019t always get to\nexplore the thinking behind the source text.  Following the author\u2019s writing footprints over time is one of my most cherished experiences.  I was engaged to translate a\nbook on Sans Self Tea Gathering after completing some translation\nassignments on Master Tsai\u2019s  thoughts\nand opinions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Master Tsai is committed to nurturing and promoting Sans Self Tea Gathering, a unique manifestation of the Way of Tea he has created. There is a\ndetailed account of this in the book, which has been translated into several languages to help spread the concept and format internationally. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A favourite\nbeverage enjoyed the world over, tea is infused with\nsymbolism. It may mean different things to people from different cultural\nbackgrounds.  Conveying the author\u2019s intended meaning in\nanother language is a challenge; when done\ncorrectly, it will\ncommunicate the same message and deliver the same reading\nexperience to non-Chinese speakers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Having said that, concepts such as \u201can unending cycle of being and nothing\u201d,\npractices such as offering tea in one direction \u201cto eliminate the expectation of\nreciprocity\u201d and the unique perspective\nof tea\nbeing in the \u201cLand of Nothingness\u201d are\nrooted in Eastern philosophies; they may not readily resonate with English-speaking readers. My priority was to carry\nthese concepts, practices and perspectives across linguistic and cultural divides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Take the opening sentence of Segment 173 \u201cThe Land of\nNothingness: where tea is produced, brewed and taken\u201d as an example.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“\u65e0\u4f55\u6709\u4e4b\u4e61\u662f\u8bf4\u8fd9\u4e16\u95f4\u672c\u65e0\u53ef\u4ee5\u963b\u6320\u4f60\u7684\u4e8b\u52a1\uff0c\u662f\u53ef\u4ee5\u81ea\u7531\u53d1\u5c55\u7684\u3002\u201d was translated as “Negative\nas its connotation may seem, the term Land of Nothingness could be understood\ndifferently. It may refer, figuratively, to a place devoid of any interference\n— a condition that renders it conducive to unadulterated development and the\nrealisation of growth to come.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The phrase \u201c\u65e0\u4f55\u6709\u4e4b\u4e61\u201d (literally \u201cThe Land with Complete Absence of Everything\u201d) traces its\norigin to \u201cZhuangzi<\/em>\u00b7<\/em>Free and Easy Wandering<\/em>” by Chinese\nphilosopher Zhuang Zhou. Master Tsai has used it to describe\nan environment in which unhindered development is possible with the absence of\nintervention. More specifically, this condition benefits tea throughout its\nlife cycle. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c\u65e0\u4f55\u6709\u4e4b\u4e61\u201d was translated as \u201cLand of Nothingness\u201d to create a link to the concept of \u201can unending cycle\nof being and nothing\u201d inherent in Sans Self Tea Gathering.  However, the word \u201cnothingness\u201d may have a negative\nconnotation. For example, the Cambridge Dictionary defines it as \u201ca state where nothing\nis present, or where nothing exists that is important or gives meaning to life\u201d.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

To put the author\u2019s intended meaning into perspective, the segment\nbegins with “Negative as its connotation may seem, the term Land of\nNothingness could be understood differently. It may refer, figuratively, to a\nplace devoid of any interference – ” . The use of explicitation is a means\nto address possible differences in understanding and underline the context that will connect the readers with the author.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Translating “Sans Self Tea Gathering”\nis an opportunity hard to come by. I sincerely hope that the English\ntranslation will help Sans Self Tea Gathering transcend borders, cultures and\nlanguages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
